Peer Education (formerly Tutoring and Supplemental Instruction) assists in developing the skills needed for students to become independent learners who grow personally and academically through knowledge sharing and peer facilitation*.
Peer Education includes the following areas: Tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, the Math & Science Learning Center, and the Financial Fitness Learning Center.

Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental Instruction is a resource offered and available to any student registered in an SI-targeted course. SI sessions occur two times each week outside of scheduled class periods. SI Leaders are a great resource and are supportive peers.

The Financial Fitness Learning Center consists of staff and Peer Financial Fitness Coaches who engage students in financial wellness education and planning to prepare them for remaining in college and responsible financial decision making.

  • When: Monday, January 10- Wednesday, January 12 from 8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M.
  • Where: Outside the Dean of Students Office
  • When: Thursday, January 13 from 9:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M.
  • Where: Upper Level, Pope Student Center
  • What: Meet a Peer Educator, schedule your tutoring appointments, or simply learn about our services. First 50 students receive a FREE t-shirt. On Thursday, Peer Educators will also be on-staff to offer information about how you can become a Peer Educator.

  • When: Thursday, February 10 at 2:00 P.M.
  • Where: Upper Level, Pope Student Center
  • What: Join Peer Education and Testing to see who has what it takes to win BIG! One DSC student will walk away with $200 cash. Presented by ThinkFast on tour with a live show host. Possible topics include pop culture, academics, and Dalton State questions. Play electronically from your seat or opt to go on stage! FREE “brainfood” will also be available.

INVESTING: NOT A GAME OF CHANCE

  • When: Monday, February 21 at 12:30 P.M.
  • Where: Eddie Miller Room, Pope Student Center
  • What: Join us for three fun investment board game championships all happening at the same time. Winners of each game receive a $25 gift card. A 10-minute basics of investing presentation will start us off so that anyone can play! First 25 students will receive free pizza.

NEED A BRAIN BOOST?

  • When: Thursday, March 3 at 10:00 A.M. While Supplies Last
  • Where: Pope Student Center Patio
  • What: Join Peer Education and Testing to learn about reducing test and financial stress. Activities: Be money $mart with brain darts. Then, battle brain fog with DIY essential oil roller bottles. LEARNING TO DANCE IN THE RAIN THROUGH FINANCIAL DOWNPOURS

  • Where: Eddie Miller Room, Pope Student Center

SI TIE DYE

  • When: Tuesday, April 5 from 12:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M. or While Supplies Last
  • Where: The Quad
  • What: Join Peer Education to tie dye a FREE shirt or face mask, meet a supplemental instruction leader, and learn more about our services.

TAXES & TEA PARTY

  • When: Monday, April 11 from 1:40 P.M. – 2:40 P.M.
  • Where: Gignilliat Memorial Hall, Room 101A & 101B
  • What: Enjoy some tea and act on your taxes. Learn about how to file your taxes or where to go for discounted student filing fees while enjoying hot tea and snacks.

FAFSA NIGHT

  • When: Tuesday, April 19 from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M.
  • Where: Gignilliat Memorial Hall
  • What: Incoming/current students and their families are invited to receive assistance completing their FAFSA to see if they qualify for financial assistance in paying for college. Presentations and one-on-one assistance is offered. Assistance offered by Dalton State Financial Aid, the Financial Fitness Learning Center & the Latin American Association. Bilingual assistance is available.

FOOD FOR FINALS TUTORING

  • When: Monday, May 2 from 10:00 P.M. – 1:00 A.M.
  • Where: Upper Level, Pope Student Center
  • What: Student Life hosts FREE late-night breakfast to kick-off finals. Peer Education offers tutoring during the event.
