Dalton State: A place to learn, connect and grow

Colleges are a place for community members as well as students to learn, to connect and to grow. Dalton State College is a vibrant campus with numerous educational, cultural and recreational opportunities—from arts to athletics—that are available and open to local citizens. I hope you will consider engaging and connecting with us this spring through one or more of the following experiences, which are free or have nominal entry fees.

One Book, One Community Reads – This community-wide reading of a single book this spring features Difficult Conversations, which offers critical and practical skills for constructive discussions around topics that may be stressful or challenging. Copies of the book and details are available at DSC’s Roberts Library or the Dalton-Whitfield Public Library.

Athletics – We have six NAIA athletic teams, and this year our men’s golf and soccer teams both won national championships. Our men’s basketball team is having an amazing season and is currently ranked #11 in the national NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll. With just a few home games left in the season, be sure to come out and cheer on the Roadrunners. For game information, visit dsroadrunners.com.

Homecoming – With more than 80% of our alumni still residing in northwest Georgia, we hope to see a great turnout for our homecoming events, Feb. 21-22, beginning with the community parade on Hamilton Street in Dalton at 5:30 on Friday, Feb. 21.

Concerts – In Dalton State hosts several musical performances each year and will host Luther Enloe, a classical guitarist, for a performance on Feb. 26.

Bandy Heritage Center – As part of its Catherine Evans Whitener Demonstration and Workshop Series in Heritage Arts, the Bandy Heritage Center is partnering with the Creative Arts Guild to offer demonstrations and workshops in pottery and primitive arts in February and March. Learn more at bandyheritagecenter.org.

Theatre – Dalton State’s spring production is The Mousetrap, a murder mystery play by Agatha Christie. Performances will be Mar. 28 – April 5 in Goodroe Auditorium on campus.

Roadrunner Trail System – Dalton State has more than five miles of interconnected trails on the side of Rocky Face Ridge. The trail system, developed by faculty, staff, students, and community members, is open to the public during daylight hours.

As you can tell from this array of activities, there is something for everyone at Dalton State, and I hope our community will take advantage of these opportunities. Know that you are welcome on our campus, and we hope to see you soon! To learn more about any of these opportunities and others, visit the Community page of our website or connect with us through social media.
