Presented by Matthew Gramling and Lee Anne Cline, “The Origins and Rise of Candlewick Tufting in Northwest Georgia” gives audiences the opportunity to learn about the the embroidery technique known as candlewick tufting, which a young Catherine Evans Whitener reinvented and popularized through the creation of tufted bedspreads. Gramling and Cline will discuss and display the skills Whitener employed in creating her bedspreads, and which launched the tufted textile industry in Northwest Georgia–bringing wealth and fame to Dalton and beyond.
