Social Sciences| Mission Statement

Welcome | Programs of Study | Faculty & Staff | Mission Statement | Georgia History Exam

The primary purpose of the Department of Social Sciences is to provide excellent instruction in criminal justice, psychology, political science, sociology, and philosophy. Courses in these areas support the Core Curriculum and various baccalaureate programs of Dalton State College, including the B.S. degrees in Criminal Justice and in Psychology that are housed in the Department of Social Sciences. In addition to academic instruction, the Social Sciences faculty are dedicated to helping students develop an ability to acquire and analyze data, understand diverse relationships, determine critical variables and draw accurate conclusions, engage in academic and professional writing, and establish appropriate ethical values. These all serve to prepare students for professional employment in related areas or for further education in graduate or professional school.
