On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Department of Social Work, welcome to the Bachelor of Social Work Program! Whether you are a social work major or minor or a prospective applicant, you will find that we have an excellent academic program with a skilled, knowledgeable faculty. Graduates of our program are prepared to assist people of all ages in a variety of settings. The Dalton State BSW program stresses the value of diversity and the importance of practicing social work in a competent manner within diverse communities.
Dalton State’s BSW program, which is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) through 2019, prepares social workers to practice social work in a variety of social service agencies including hospitals, mental health centers, home health agencies, child welfare agencies, nursing homes, aging services, hospices, substance abuse programs, and criminal justice programs. The program also prepares students for graduate study in Master of Social Work (MSW) programs. BSW students are provided excellent practicum experiences through a broad variety of internships and field placements.
If you're looking for a career that allows you to “make a difference” in the lives of others and provides you with the skills needed for building a better world, consider majoring in social work. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of social workers is expected to grow by 25 percent from 2010 to 2020, faster than the average for all occupations. Our alumni, many of whom have completed graduate studies, are making significant contributions to the profession of social work throughout the United States and the world.
I invite you to join the social work profession by studying at Dalton State. If you have questions, please contact me.
