Individual and Group Counseling

We believe that having a safe and confidential space for students to address their issues is important for personal growth and academic achievement. The counseling center provides short-term group therapy and individualized counseling. All counseling services are conducted by appropriately trained and credentialed therapists experienced in working with college students of all ages and backgrounds. Common issues addressed in therapy are depression, anxiety, academic concerns, adjustment issues, and more.

Group therapy is often the most effective way to deal with the challenges many college students face; therefore, we offer different counseling groups throughout the year. Some groups are ongoing, while others have a set number of sessions.

Individualized counseling can be useful for dealing with issues that benefit from more direct attention in a setting with only the student and the therapist. It’s tailored to the unique needs of each student and will be time-limited.

In some cases, students may gain value by utilizing group therapy and individualized counseling. A therapist will work with you to best determine your needs and individual offerings.

Referrals

Sometimes students present with needs that need exceptional attention that we may not have the resources for at the counseling center. Occasionally, students need help with acquiring more specific treatments that may include medication and more frequent appointments. We can assist students in locating resources both on and off-campus, including referrals that are made when student issues fall outside of our Scope of Practice.

Confidentiality

All counseling/therapy sessions are treated with the strictest of confidence. No personal information you share with your counselor will be divulged to any third party, including parents, faculty, staff, or other students, without your written permission. Under certain circumstances, there are some exceptions where confidentiality may not be guaranteed.  These exceptions include, but are not limited to: serious and imminent threat to your life or welfare, or to the life or welfare of another person, or to the college community. Full disclosure and applicability of confidentiality is provided during the first meeting. For more information, please review our informed consent document and contact us.
