Why did you choose Dalton State? I chose Dalton State because it was close to home, offered high quality education, and it was affordable.

What do you plan to do after graduation? I plan to attend medical school.

Who is/was your favorite professor and why? I am beyond honored to have had many caring, excellent, and wise professors like Dr. Matt Chenoweth, Dr. Marina Smitherman, Dr. Kerry Dunbar, Dr. Emma Cooley, and Professor Elizabeth Lucht. The professors that have impacted my life the most are Dr. April Kay, Dr. David DesRochers, Dr. Dean Turner, Dr. Richard Collison, Dr. Omar Villanueva, and Dr. Tricia Scott. I have learned many valuable skills from these wonderful individuals! They have shaped the person I am today and the physician I will be in the future. I am eternally grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from extraordinary scientists.

What activities are you involved in on campus? I am privileged to serve as a public relations officer for Beta Chi Nu which is Dalton State’s chapter of Tri-Beta National Biological Honor Society. I am the vice president of the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science, the first SACNAS organization in the state of Georgia, and the president of the Pre-Health Professionals Club. I am proud to be a member of the Astronomy Club, Environmental Club, Phi Beta Lambda, and Chemistry Club.

What are some of your biggest achievements or accomplishments at Dalton State? I have been on the Dean’s list since my freshman year. I received the Jolly Family Scholarship in Science and Mathematics; I initiated my own research; and I helped organize the inaugural Student Research Conference at DSC.

Where is your favorite study spot? My favorite study spot at Dalton State is the tutoring room at Peeples Hall, the research lab, or a study room in the library.

What’s on your iPad? Notability, Pandora, Facebook, and MCAT flashcards.

Favorite comfort food? My grandmother’s food.

What is your guilty pleasure? I love to contemplate the beauty of sunsets.

What do you feel most proud of? My family. They have taught me the real meaning of unity.

If you won the lottery, what would you do? I would take my family to Europe, donate it to charity, pay my sister’s college education, and my medical education.

What is a skill you’d like to learn and why? I would love to speak more languages to travel around the world and serve people, and I would love to learn to play the violin. 

What cheers you up? My silly siblings, my friends, music, and a sunny day.

Who is your hero? My parents! They have taught me the importance of being determined, dedicated, kind, humble, passionate, and caring.

What is your favorite childhood memory? Celebrating Christmas with my entire family in Manzanillo, Mexico.

What did you want to be when you were a kid? A physician

What does it mean to you to be part of the Roadrunner Nation? Being part of the Roadrunner Nation means being part of a welcoming, supporting, and dedicated institution that offers quality education and a friendly environment. I have grown academically, as a leader, and as a scientist. It means belonging to a diverse, unique, and caring family.
