Employers Invited to Participate in Internship Fair at Dalton State

Posted on

An upcoming internship fair at Dalton State will give students seeking an internship or a job the chance to meet directly with employers while practicing networking skills.

Area employers who have internships, part-time or full-time positions to fill are invited to participate in the fair on Tuesday, Aug. 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the BizHub in Gignilliat Hall on campus. Email [email protected] for more information or to register for the fair.

“This event is a great opportunity, and the first since before the pandemic, for our community partners and employers to speak, recruit and network directly with our students, who are looking for internships and job opportunities,” said Mallory Safley, assistant director for Career and Professional Development. “Employers will be able to collect resumes, conduct informal interviews and market to our students face-to-face.

“More than 70% of Dalton State’s graduates stay in Northwest Georgia,” she said. “So, this event provides employers and students the opportunity to develop professional relationships that will bring necessary skills into the workforce and also keep those individuals in our community long term.”

According to a survey of 2020-2021 Dalton State graduates, those who completed at least one learning experience outside the classroom – such as an internship or a practicum – earn approximately $6,000 more a year than those who did not, Safley said.

“We understand employers are looking for candidates with experience, and by offering this event, we are providing our students with experiential learning opportunities that give them hands-on training and experience necessary for their next steps beyond Dalton State,” she said.
