Dalton State College’s move-in day welcomes new and returning students

Mashburn Hall reaches residential capacity

New and returning students lined the sidewalks of Dalton State’s Mashburn Hall with moving carts and arms full of necessities to move into their residence suites on August 10.

Family members, students, staff and faculty were on-site carrying mini refrigerators, microwaves and more to help students get settled into their home-away-from-home.

“Move-in day is truly magical as you are witnessing first-time students meeting individuals who are going to become lifelong friends and returning students who are ecstatic to share with each other how they applied what they learned inside our classrooms to their summer internships that were just completed,” Tim Reilly, director of Residential Life, said.

Mashburn Hall reached its maximum capacity for the first time this fall since opening in 2016 with a residential population that represents 133 domestic and international cities.

“The occupancy increase in Mashburn Hall reflects the overall enrollment growth at Dalton State,” Jodi Johnson, vice president of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, said. “After several years of declining enrollment, Dalton State is experiencing a second consecutive year of enrollment growth, leading to the growth in our residence hall, which is at capacity for the first time.”

Including 363 beds, Mashburn Hall provides students with a variety of amenities, such as study rooms, a kitchen, game rooms, and outdoor fire pit.

Dalton State is ranked number one in the nation for student experience by the Wall Street Journal/College Pulse and number one in Georgia for affordability by the U.S. Department of Education.
