Why did you choose Dalton State? My senior year of high school, I had decided I was going to any college besides Dalton State because it was too close to home, but eventually I decided to attend DSC because it was close to home and super affordable. My plan was to eventually transfer to another campus. But to my surprise, I truly loved it here and didn’t want to leave! The radiating love DSC professors show you, you just don’t get at larger campuses. Everyone is so welcoming, and I am so proud to say I am a Roadrunner.
What does it mean to you to be part of the Roadrunner Nation? To be a part of the Roadrunner Nation means the absolute world to me. I am so proud to call myself a Roadrunner. The opportunities I have had during my four years at DSC is something that I don’t believe I would have had at any other campus. At Dalton State, I am Cynthia Evans. I’m not just a number, and that is so important to me! To feel important and like I matter, and the close-knit bond we all share at Dalton State is something I hold very dear to my heart. I am proud of who I have become, and Dalton State helped me open and make connections that I wouldn’t have had the courage to make otherwise.
What do you plan to do after graduation? I plan to open my own business here in downtown Dalton.
Who is/was your favorite professor and why? Hands down, Mrs. Hammontree! She is such an amazing woman, and she is the most genuine person I have ever met. The unconditional love she shows all her students is unmatched. No matter how bad of a day I am having, she can always put a smile on my face.
Where is your favorite study spot? Gignilliat Memorial Hall or Starbucks!
Where is your favorite hangout? I love to hang out in downtown Dalton.
What is your best memory so far as part of the Roadrunner Nation? My best memory is by far being on the homecoming court this year. I met some amazing students that I grew close to, and it was just an amazing experience. Being crowned queen is something I will never forget, and it is something that I will forever be grateful for.
Favorite comfort food? Anything my mom cooks!
If you had a theme song, what would it be? Ridin’ by Chamillionare
What do you feel most proud of? Buying a house with my high school sweetheart. It was very stressful trying to juggle school, work and my social life all while in the process of buying a house, but it was all worth it in the end, and I am so happy I can say I am a homeowner at 22 years old.
If you could only keep five possessions, what would they be? My phone, planner, brow powder, a good book and an essential oil.
If you won the lottery, what would you do? The businesswoman in me says invest! I would also donate money to help fund research to find a cure for my disability, SMA.
What is a skill you’d like to learn and why? I would like to learn how to play the guitar because I really love to sing. I always remember that when I was growing up my papaw would always play the guitar, and it is something that is very special to me.
Who is your hero? 100% my mom. She has been such a blessing in my life, and I truly don’t know what I would do without her.
If you could go back in history, who would you like to meet? Marilyn Monroe. Always seeing photos of her with a bright red lip, absolutely sparked my love for makeup. My entire room used to be decorated with Marilyn Monroe stuff. It was honestly a little obsessive!
What is your favorite app? I am obsessed with Instagram.
Where is your favorite place to eat? I am a huge seafood lover, so I would have to say Pier 88!
As a Roadrunner, what does it mean to Run Boldly? Run Boldly means to unapologetically be myself and the truest version of myself. It means to be proud of who I am and who I have become during my time at Dalton State. It reminds me to be fearless and be bold. One of the most important things I have learned during my time at DSC is to dream big, and that in fact, no dream is too big. I will never give up, and I will do exactly what I have always dreamed of doing, and I will give it my absolute all.
